About Tengah Beach, Langkawi

Here about Tengah Beach, Langkawi.

Pantai Tengah is about 500 metres south of Cenang Beach. This lovely beach is a great place for you to relax and unwind.

Pantai Tengah

The water is clear blue most of the time except for the rainy season. It might get murky a little bit. Pantai Tengah is not really suitable for swimming unless you're immune to jellyfishes.

You can choose your type of place to stay - from low key chalets to luxury resorts as the beachfront is chock-full with hotels, resorts and a variety of restaurants. One particular place to go for some good Mediterranean and Malaysian food is The Lighthouse Restaurant & Beach Bar. A semi open-air concept restaurant, The Lighthouse is ideal for evening drinks and sunset dining. What's more interesting though is an old kampung house right next door which offers an experience to learn a few tips on how to cook Malaysian dishes with Chef Shuk.

Organic treatment oils offered in Spa

Above talks about spa.

TO help uplift the local spa industry and promote wellness, a new spa opened at Parkmall.

Langkawi Discovery Spa offers the “preventive approach” in taking care of one’s body through the use of organic and natural materials.

The spa is eyeing health buffs, nature lovers and environmental protection advocates as potential clients.

Langkawi spa director Sheila Mendez said the facility houses 16 beds and 18 therapists who provide spa services like organic body scrub and foot spa, as well as non-pricking non-surgical facial treatment called Biodroga.

Biodroga is considered a popular anti-aging treatment in Europe, said Mendez.

Ed Mendez, Sheila’s husband, said the family initially invested P3 million for the new facility.

The use of natural essential oils sets Langkawi apart from other spas in Cebu, Ed said.

“Essential oil has a therapeutic effect on our bodies. Our base carrier oil is (from) grape seeds mixed with lavender, cedar wood, rosemary, lemon grass and jojoba, among others.

The smell of essential oil triggers our olfactory senses. Upon massage, it opens up skin pores and penetrates into our circulation system,” said Ed, also Spa Association of the Philippines Inc. national board director for the Visayas and Mindanao.

Langkawi’s signature massages include Kondalini energy revitalizing massage or deep tissue massage, Swedish touch therapy, and Namikotsi shiatsu.

Ed said Langkawi is the only day spa that carries Biodroga products outside Metro Manila since these items can only be found in the country’s resorts and hotels.

When demand for Lang-kawi’s services grows, he said the company will consider opening another outlet in Cebu City.

The spa will formally open on May 30.

Meanwhile, Langkawi is supporting the preservation of the Danajon Reef located near Bohol, Cebu and Leyte.

Smooth sand in Chenang, Langkawi

Here's about Chenang Beach Resort.

Even though there are a lot of beaches in Langkawi, it's quite hard to swim because of the presence of jellyfish. Even if you decide to swim, you might be the only one and all you can do is swim, no beach sports. But Panti Cenang or Cenang Beach is an exception of all those. The sand is very smooth and fine. We can also do Beach sports such as riding a Jet-Ski, banana boat, para sailing, etc. It's quite hard to find such beaches with such activities in Langkawi.

Langkawi Ramadhan Bazaar

Above about Langkawi Ramadhan Bazaar.

The month-long, delightful Food Carnival and Extravaganza is back. With the start of Ramadhan here in Malaysia today, you can find stalls selling varieties of mouth-watering food and drinks for the breaking of fast everywhere in Langkawi from today right up to 30th. September. It is known as the Ramadhan Bazaar or “Pasar Ramadan” in Malay. The bazaars normally will be open daily from 4pm and closes at about 7.15pm ( right before the breaking of fast).

The month of Ramadhan is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar, and is a month where Muslims must fast (”puasa” in Malay) from sunrise till sunset.

It is a month for spiritual reflection, prayers, and essentially training the body and mind to be a good, righteous, complete and perfect Muslim.

Fasting is not only forgoing food and drink from sunrise till sunset, but also “fasting” of the mind from unhealthy thoughts, the mouth from uttering bad words, the ears from listening untrue gossips about others, and the eyes from looking at prohibited matters.

The Ramadhan Bazaars (or Pasar Ramadan in Malay) are different from night markets in the sense that these Ramadhan Bazaars sell mostly food and drinks for the breaking of fast.

As in previous years, there will be a variety of delicacies and freshly baked treats to tempt the eye from basketfuls of kuih (local 1 cake) assortment to rows of side dishes and drinks to complement a family dinner.

There is no better time for locals and tourists to titillate taste buds than by touring the various buka puasa (breaking of fast) spots and trying out the various delicacies each site offers during the month-long Ramadhan Bazaar. Two main Ramadhan Bazaars here are located in down town Kuah (Pandak Mayah area) and Padang Matsirat near the Langkawi Airport while you can find smaller bazaars or other licences stalls everwhere throughout Langkawi.

This is the time when tourists can join Malaysian Muslims and non-Muslims alike to savour authentic Malay dishes offered by street vendors and restaurants in hotels throughout the fasting month.

VARIETIES OF FOOD AND DRINKS

The food traders, who are given temporary license at allotted spaces by the local authority, sells usually under canopies and huge umbrellas.

Stalls are normally set up as early as 4pm and by late evening they would be packed with people of all races. For the stall traders, some of them part-timers, it is a time when they can earn extra income for the family to be used for buying essentials and luxuries to celebrate Hari Raya Aidil Fitri.

These stalls attract Muslims and non-Muslims alike to their special once-a-year delicacies and favourite foods.

Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort Meals

Above about meals that has in Sheraton Beach Resort

Spice and Rose Petal
.

The Spice flavour (top) was light and refreshing, almost a sorbet, with hints of cinnamon, cardamom and ginger. The Rose Petal was a richer and milkier dessert; the rose petal flavour was interesting, but I found the milk a tad overpowering.

Breakfasts at Feast, the coffee house, were equally lavish affairs and we frequently found ourselves unable to stomach lunch.

Eggs any way you want them! Really enjoyed the fluffy, puffy omelettes!

Fresh loaves of bread

Smoked fish - they alternated between mackerel and tuna. Both equally satisfying with fresh bread and Lurpak butter.

Tabbouleh & Hummus also made an appearance. Didn't think they went down well at breakfast but they WERE good!

Pancakes & waffles hot off the griddle...

...and all the condiments you can think of

The token Jap section... we didn't go near this though.

Action Station #2 fired up the grill for breakfast lamb chops, sausages, beef bacon; also dished up an addictive porridge with condiments galore.

Cakes, pastries, muffins... MEH!

The hot items changed daily - on the day I brought my camera, they had these plum grilled tomatoes

a passable roesti and many other favourites like baked beans, meatballs, fried rice. There were also fixed stations for nasi lemak section with curries and DIY noodle soup.

Langkawi's scuba diving

These about Langkawi scuba diving.

Experienced scuba divers in Malaysia seldom fail to visit Langkawi. The blissful island has an asset which makes any visit for diving worth of it. Just 19 nautical miles off Langkawi Island is Pulau Payar Marine Park, a fantastic place to enjoy activities like diving and snorkeling. It is the simplicity of the island which makes it special. Both for the experienced and the amateur!

The Marine Park
Pulau Payar is a tiny elongated island located midway between Langkawi and Penang. Designated by the Malaysian government as a marine park since 1985, it is the only Marine Park on the west coast of Malaysia. The park shelters species which are not found elsewhere on western coast. The boat ride from Langkawi to Pulau Payar takes one to two hours depending on weather. Even the sea journey would give something productive.

Regular Diving Trips
Tour operators in Langkawi organize regular diving trips for Pulau Payar. Once you book a trip to Langkawi, the operators will themselves approach you on the ferry to check out if you are interested in scuba diving. For the amateur, who have never dived before, they provide one to one guide. With the help of these experienced guides, you could extract the best out of your trip.

Diving in Deeper Water
The guides could take you to deeper waters where you would see a richer variety of large fish. Jacks, titan triggers, morays, blue-ringed angelfish, lionfish, and porcupine fish are some of the residents of this serene landscape interspersed with barrel sponge, and multi-colored coral. You will get to see schools of large fish including barracudas, cod and snappers which are invisible in the shallow waters of the. After spending a couples of hours in the deep water, you could get back to Pulau Payar for relaxing or enjoying some beach games. Normally two dives are scheduled in a day.

Underwater Scene
One is really amazed by the lush underwater scene while scuba diving in Langkawi and take back home some happy memories of rabbitfish snacking on bubbles. You never know when a long barracuda would sneak up to unsuspecting divers. The water near jetty is always populated with thick concentration of fish. You would mostly see the bannerfish and redtail butterflyfish. Most divers dive off the giant platform where the catamarans dock. However, there are several other places on the island where you could dive.

Stress-free Diving
Diving in Langkawi is free of stress. Dives here are not of the struggle-against-the-current variety. This makes it quite favorable among the amateur divers. For the divers who wish to take things easy, conditions are good.

Let's enjoying spa in Langkawi

Above about spa in Langkawi.

Spa is a major attraction for tourists in Langkawi. The concept of spa merges with the traditions of herbal baths, meditation and massage. In older days, temples were the centre of the spa. Buddhist monks played the role of both the religious leaders and doctors prescribing massages and herbal remedies for the sick. However, now, the role of spa has changed a lot.

Spa in Langkawi
Langkawi of today has emerged as a major spa centre in Malaysia. All major resorts in Langkawi offer their own spa services. One can enjoy both the Eastern and Western techniques of spa here. You can just receive a Thai massage or extend the services to full spa treatment for any ailment. People of all tastes and budgets can enjoy spa treatments here. You could visit the fancy five star spa centres or opt for inexpensive spa places at the beaches. Rest assured, spa at the beach can be as good as a high-charging spa centre.

Spa Massage
Main uses of spa are as massage, facial and body treatment. The most popular spa service is massage. Body muscles are manually manipulated to de-stress them. The massage improves blood circulation and treats muscle pain and spasm. Calming the nervous system, it promotes the sense of relaxation. Facial is the second most popular service involving skin analysis, deep cleansing, massage, toning, moisturizing and extractions.

Body Treatment
Body treatment is the third use of spa. Most people have the salt glow treatment where the therapist rubs off the outermost layer of dead skin cells. The salt glow is often combined with hydrating treatment. Products like mud, algae, or seaweed are used to hydrate or detoxify the body. Oil is applied to soften or condition the skin. Most spa centres offer manicures and pedicures. Good spa centres have facilities like sauna, steam bath and hot tub.

Langkawi is the among the best spa centres in Malaysia. Get some spa massages during your Langkawi trip. You would enjoy it.

Dayang Bunting Island, Langkawi

These are about Pulau Dayang Bunting in Langkawi.

Pulau Dayang Bunting (Island Of The Pregnant Mermaid) is the second largest island of the Langkawi archipelago, second only to Pulau Langkawi itself. Located at a distance of about 17.6 km from Kuah Town, Pulau Dayang Bunting is accessible from Kuah Jetty or Pantai Cenang through a 15 minute boat ride.

The island derives its name from Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden), the largest lake on Langkawi. The lake and the island are shrouded in legend. Tales of Mambang Sari and Mat Teja's ill-fated love story loom over one's mind as one cools off in the scintillating waters of the lake. The story of Mat Teja's courtship of his beloved and their sweet romantic endeavors take the tourists back into the world of nymphs and genies. Their love child did not survive long and the anguished mother bid her son farewell. The child is believed to have assumed the form of a white crocodile as she placed him in his watery grave. This crocodile guards the lake till date, natives hold, and is said to appear only to the pure at heart. Mambang Sari, overflowing with maternal affection and distraught at such a fortuity, blessed the waters that took her son into their fold with magical qualities. Since then, the natives believe that a sip of the waters of Tasik Dayang Bunting endows fertility to any childless woman.

Gua Langsir (Cave of the Banshee), located on the western shore of the island, is another major attraction of the island. The natives superstitiously believe the existence of a banshee haunting the interiors of this dark cave. However the name may also be associated with the banshee like wail created by the howling of the wind. Many attribute this wail purely to the acoustics of the cave. Thousands of bats are known to inhabit this cave. The Gua Langsir is located stop a 91 m limestone hillock, about 8 km north of the only jetty. This jetty has been fashioned in a small cove to aid tourists alight their boats before proceeding to explore the Pulau Dayang Bunting.

Pulau Dayang Bunting is famed for the mangrove swamplands and the dense tropical rainforests it encompasses. A vast variety of birds such as the kite, woodpecker, hornbill, drongo and kingfisher nest here and Pulau Dayang Bunting the ornithologist's Eden.

Langkawi, is a cluster of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland of north-western Malaysia. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah in Malaysia. Things to Do

Beaches: Beaches are the main attraction here – and they come in all forms – white, black, pebble.

The Monsoon Cup in Langkawi

Here's about Monsoon Cup in Langkawi.

YACHTING and boating appears to be a growing phenomenon in Malaysia.

Certainly, there have been, for many years, some yacht clubs in Malaysia.

In recent years, though, these established clubs have been more of a social set-up with a few small dinghies out on an afternoon of racing possibly, but with not many larger boats in evidence.

Now that we have The Monsoon Cup, regular international regattas in Langkawi and the development of a number of new marinas around Malaysia, yachting is acquiring a decidedly higher profile.
In Langkawi, boat charters are really taking off. The options extend from a sunset cruise with dinner, to a full-day trip around the islands or even a couple of days aboard as one sets sail for Phuket.

The boats range from motor or wind-powered to a magnificent Barquentine that’s 249 feet (83 metres) long.

Blue Water Star Sailing, for example, can arrange to accommodate you and up to more than 50 friends on a number of boats and ships which are on their books.

An introduction to the sea for a group of up to 20 “landlubbers” could be a day out on the 65-foot Damai Indah.

For those who require a little more luxury, fine food and wines, a tropical breeze and the sound of creaking timbers, a more modern luxury yacht is available.

Blue Water Star Sailing offers Lili Marleen. She’s 249 feet of soaring masts and luxury accommodation for more than 50 people. From the outside, she’s a classic clipper from a bygone era.

Her cabins too have a traditional look, oozing opulence with polished brass, thick carpets and wood panelling.

Being built in Germany in the 1990’s, means that she has the latest in navigation equipment, safety features, and of course creature comforts.

Above about direct flight between Langkawi and Iran.

ALOR SETAR, May 27 (Bernama) -- The Kedah government plans to have direct flights between Langkawi and Kish in Iran, to lure more Iranian tourists to the state's legendary island.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said efforts would be made by the state government to make the flight a reality.

"We want tourists in Kish to also come to Langkawi," he told reporters after receiving Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia, Mahdi Khandagh Abadi, at Wisma Darul Aman, here today.

During the meeting, they discussed, beside tourism, on joint ventures in agriculture and education.

Meanwhile, Abadi said more than 40,000 tourists from Iran visited Malaysia every year and that Langkawi was among their favourite destinations.

He said a company in Iran was keen to provide a direct flight between Kish and Langkawi.

Langkawi and Kish should be promoted as both islands provide a good destination for tourists, especially from Muslim countries, he added.

Adabi also said he was impressed with the higher learning institutions in Kedah, which he said was of good quality and located away from the busy cities.

He said the Iranian government was prepared to have exchange programmes between students and lecturers in Kedah and Iran.

Cabel Car Langkawi

Above about Cabel Car in Langkawi.

The Oriental Village in the upper northwest of Langkawi Island, near Pantai Kok, is the entrance for the cable-car ride, which takes visitors all the way up to Mount Mat Cincang, Langkawi’s second highest peak. Entering the village and passing through the pleasant oriental garden and souvenir shops, visitors make their payment at a counter before stepping onto an escalator which brings them to the cable-car pedestal.

Once in, the cable-car ascends; you’ll begin to notice the temperature dropping and a windy breeze begin flowing into the cabin through ventilation slits at the top. As it gets cooler, the landscape below begins to appear smaller, and at after climbing at a 42° angle for a few hundred feet, you can start snapping pictures of the rainforest below. Look out at the side for a view of the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls, which cascades down a grey rock face.

Look out at the side for a view of the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls, which cascades down a grey rock face.

After around 600 metres, the cable car reaches the first station, where you disembark to either; take another cable car up to the peak, or lull around the observatory deck and admire the magnificent surroundings. Most will not spend too long here, as the view from the peak is even more amazing. After a short queue, you can grab another cable car and ride up another wire cable which doesn’t rise too sharply, though the initial jolt of the car leaving the second station can feel quite unnerving.

As the car settles to a decent speed after the brief spurt from the station, passengers will be treated to an even higher view of the rainforest and hills below. The car here is at its coolest and in too short a time, you’ll reach the final station which is where most of the excitement is. Passengers leaving the cab will be greeted by a menagerie of stalls selling souvenirs, toys, snacks and drinks.

You’ll want to climb a set of staircases that cuts through a thin forest to reach the observatory deck above. Once on the top, you can finally enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding horizon; the island’s landscape, skyline and seas beyond. At the side is a steel bridge suspended across Mount Mat Cincang and a neighbouring mountain. Walking across this bridge is a fantastic experience and offers a different viewpoint of the island and sea towards the north.

After immersing yourself in the views, it’ll be time to go, and the entire process of cable-car ascent is repeated in a descending route. Along the way, you can pick up some souvenirs at the final or base station before carrying your adventures elsewhere in the magnificent island of Langkawi.

Langkawi Discovery Spa

Here's about Langkawi Discovery Spa.

How does a lone spa venture help conserve the environment?

For newly opened Langkawi Discovery Spa, giving 10 percent of its monthly revenues to environment projects is its contribution in saving Mother Earth.

“Langkawi is an organic spa which uses real essential oils. Apart from being a center where people relax, we want the spa to be the hangout of environmentalists and other like-minded individuals,” said spa founder and director Sheila Mendez.

Sheila, a registered nurse, put up the spa with husband, Edward, who is engaged in human resource deployment.

They started in September 2008. About the same time, the couple met Fr. Tito Soquiño of theSto. Niño Foundation and began to discuss how they can help the environment.

“We became interested to help so we decided that part of our revenue will go to the Save the Danajon Reef Project,” said Edward.

The Danajon Reef which is located between the islands of Bohol, Leyte and Cebu, is one of the world's few double barrier reefs.

Edward is also one of the directors representing Visayas and Mindanao in the national board of the Spa Association of the Philippines (Sapi).

In November 2008, Edward attended the spa management training course in Cebu organized by Sapi to gain more knowledge and skills in putting up their first spa venture.

The couple invested P3 million and opened Langkawi last May 6 in a 160-square meter space in Park Mall, Mandaue City, Cebu.

It can accommodate 14 people at one time and employs 16 therapists.

A one-hour massage, including a foot wash, costs P390, while a 90-minute massage costs P570.

Its signature massages are the Kondalini Energy Revitalizing Massage, Swedish Touch Therapy and Namikotsi Shiatsu.

SPA PROFESSIONALS

Sheila said a primary goal of Langkawi is to help professionalize the spa industry in the country by adopting globally accepted standards.

To ensure that the spa is well run, Edward underwent training for spa operators, which included knowledge of the massage sequence that complies with the standards of the European Union (EU).

The EU has a wellness program which aims to educate spa owners in the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

In the Philippines, he said, the goal is to produce 10,000 spa professionals who meet EU standards.

Sheila noted the use of real essential oils and comprehensive training for its therapists are two crucial factors to be considered.

“Most spa centers use mineral oil but this is not good for the body because prolonged use of mineral oil will endanger the body circulation system,” she said.

Langkawi therapists use grape seed oil as base carrier oil. This is mixed with lavender, cedar wood, bergamot, rosemary and lemon grass among others.

“These essential oils have different therapeutic healing facilities in the body,” she said.

Comprehensive training of therapists is important.

She said some of Langkawi's 16 therapists were “trained from scratch.” Therapists were trained since December 2008.

“These are people who come from poor families and do not have jobs. We trained them for five months,” she added.

PASSION

Any person who plans to open a spa center should have a passion for the wellness industry, said Edward.

“If you run it just for profit, you'll just get frustrated because the volume of customers in Cebu is not that big compared to Manila,” he said.

Sheila said there should be willingness to share knowledge and skills and the heart to help people.

Plans to open two more branches in Cebu City are already in the pipeline.

Sheila said they also looking forward to open the business for partnerships and launch branches in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Cagayan De Oro and Manila among others.

The Federal government is ready to help Sime Darby with the development of the RM7.5 billion Eagle Cove project in Pantai Kok in Langkawi, Kedah.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcob said the project is to be developed under four phases encompassing the construction of a hospital, residential area, resort, a convention centre and an international standard commercial complex.

He said the project, to cover over 160 hectares, is expected to take 10 years for development and could make Malaysia a second home for foreigners once fully completed by Sime Darby Property.

"The Federal Government will be discussing with the state government of Kedah if there are areas involving the state government," he told reporters after attending a briefing in Langkawi yesterday on the project by managing director of Sime Darby Property Datuk Tunku Putra Badlishah.

The Island Car Company based in Langkawi

It's about The Island Car Company

There is a company called The Island Car Company which are using Kancil parts including the 660cc inline-3 engine to produce a 4-seater light car with a fiberglass body for the purpose of taking tourists

around resort islands.

The company will be based in Langkawi and the cars will be built at the company’s workshop with an initial batch of 100 units. No price indicated yet but the company will call it the Helang, which is probably a reference to the eagles found in Langkawi Island.

With a fiberglass body the car had better be intended only for slow speed cruising as I doubt the shell would have much crash safety capabilities engineered into it.

Langkawi, Kedah’s most famous destination, is a reclusive retreat for the tired and beaten down corporate executive, an ideal island resort for a family, a romantic escapade for honeymooners, a heaven for water sports enthusiasts and a sanctuary for sun worshippers. It comprises a group of 99 islands making it an idle setting for a romance novel. Among the popular islands are Pulau Dayang Bunting (Isle of the Pregnant Maiden), Pulau Singa Besar, a wildlife sanctuary, Pulau Payar, a marine park and Pulau Beras Basah (Isle of Wet Rice), a popular spot for swimming.

Langkawi is also the regional shopping hub for duty-free goods which offers both international and local products. Its central commercial area, the town of Kuah is a shopping haven. At there, you can find many stores and malls providing the tax-free goods. The island is also the place for the exciting Langkawi International Maritime and Air Show (LIMA). Other attractive places at Langkawi are the Mahsuri Mausoleum, Air Hangat hot springs, Galeria Perdana, Eagle’s Square, Seven Wells, Underwater World, a crocodile farm and the Tanjung Rhu Beach.

Agro Technology Parks in Langkawi

Here is about agriculture and agro

The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry is confident that the Malaysian Agriculture Research Development Institute (Mardi) is capable of producing fruits all-year round to be savoured by tourists visiting the Mardi Agro Technology Park here.

Its minister Datuk Noh Omar said many foreign tourists wanted to look at the fruiting trees and taste the fruits, such as starfruit and pineapple, at the park.

"Mardi has the expertise to grow trees that can produce fruits all-year round at its agro technology parks in Langkawi and Cameron Highlands," he told a news conference after visiting the park, here, today.

The 27.39ha park, which is developed also for agro-tourism, grows more than 20 types of fruit like rambutan, jackfruit, guava, mango, durian and oranges, as well as vegetables and ulam.

Noh said Mardi's expertise had also attracted foreign countries like Nigeria to learn from the agro technology it had developed, including in rice cultivation.

He said the ministry would like the private sector to further develop the agro park here by building chalets for tourists to stay.

The park received 23,995 visitors in 2008, from 18,820 in 2007 and 9,206 in 2006, with over 80 per cent of them being foreigners.

Noh said the ministry provided an allocation of RM300,000 for the park this year and hoped that its management would also focus on offering visitors fruity buffet, and overnight stay and fishing for visitors.

Besides the Mardi agro technology parks in Langkawi and Cameron Highlands, the MAHA site in Serdang and Bukit Cerakah Agro Park, both in Selangor, were also chosen by the ministry to promote agro tourism.
